Help me get to the 2013 Downhill MTB World Champs

Help me get to South Africa for the World Championships and the final World Cup rounds in Europe.

Hey people I need your support! Help me get to the 2013 UCI Downhill MTB World Championships in South Africa and the final two UCI World Cup rounds in Norway and Austria.

Earlier this year I was selected by Bike NZ to represent at the World Championships. Additionally I have entered the two World Cup events to further my abilities and gain more experience against the best riders in the world on some of the world’s best downhill tracks.

Your generous support will enable me to compete at these events and will be used for

  • -Living costs in South Africa and Europe
  • -Travel costs to attend the two European rounds
  • -Replacement and spare bike parts
  • -Entry fees for World Cup rounds
  • -Cost of insurance

Here are the dates for the races

  • -UCI MTB Downhill World Championships, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa – 26th-31st  August 2013
  • -UCI MTB Downhill World Cup round 5, Hafjell, Norway – 14th-15th September 2013
  • -UCI MTB Downhill World Cup round 6, Leogang, Austria –  21st-22nd September 2013.

I was lucky enough to receive a $3300 grant from Counties Manukau Sport through the Youth Development Trust to kick start my fundraising. This generous grant has paid for my airfares to South Africa. Thank-you Counties Manukau Sport – you are awesome!!

Mountain biking has been a part of my life since the age of a keen, young 5 year old who got his first bike as a birthday present from Mum and Dad. Riding bikes has progressed throughout my life from the days of BMX riding when I was young to growing up and hitting trails with family and friends, and more recently, the discovery of Downhill Mountain biking three years ago. From the first day on my
new downhill bike I knew that downhill racing was where I wanted to be.
Downhill racing may sound easy to the average person but it is hugely underestimated as it is one of the physically hardest extreme sports in the world. It requires not only skill, but huge discipline towards the riding itself, training, eating, and attitude, not to mention the extreme mental game that comes with it.

Being selected to represent my country at the 2013 World Champs is my greatest achievement yet and I still have many goals to fulfil in preparation to getting there and being completely ready. I don’t take this race as just representing my country but I also take it as a race that I go there to win. It’s all or nothing. In meaning so, I will be putting in many hours of training and preparation into making this worthwhile.

To date I have been extremely fortunate to receive so much support from my family, friends and local businesses! I couldn’t have got to where I am without the help they have given me!

If you have any questions or queries regarding my campaign feel free to send me an email:  k.lockwood013@gmail.com

Cheers! Thank you for your support!
