Yes, Sportfunder can provide tax receipts upon request. A tax exemption or refund may also be available for specific campaigns if they are deemed to be run by not-for-profits project or qualify for tax exempt in the country where funds are being raised.
It is absolutely free to set up and share a Sportfunder campaign. When your campaign is over, the money you raise will be subject to PayPal/Credit Card processing fees (up to 3%), so we suggest setting your campaign goal a slightly higher than the minimum you need in order to account for these. Any individual for themselves or for another party, or an individual on behalf of a club or team can use Sportfunder. However, only people over the age of 13 are permitted to create a fundraising campaign at Sportfunder. Campaigns for younger children may only be established by adult parents or legal guardians.
When your campaign ends, Sportfunder will transfer all donations, less fees, to your PayPal account. It can take up to 10 business days to complete the electronic transfer. Special payment requests can be made by emailing us
Yes. We also suggest that you may want to ask your club or sporting body, which is usually a non-profit, to approve your campaign as a non-profit activity and they may then be able to issue tax receipts for you.
You are not required to offer your contributors’ rewards for their support, but it is recommended as a proven fundraising strategy. We provide reward templates you can modify to fit with your campaign.
No but it is highly recommended that you incorporate as much video as possible into your campaign. It’s proven that videos increase engagement and contributions. To learn more, please visit our Handbook.
No, you can create, edit and launch your campaign all by yourself. However, by launching a campaign on the Sportfunder platform, you are agreeing to abide by our Terms of Use. Also, your campaign is always subject to our vetting, verification processes and procedures and we may also modify your campaign on your behalf if we notice errors or irregularities in it.
You will receive an email alert from us each time a contribution is made plus it will also appear on your campaign page.
Yes, the Sportfunder platform accepts contributions from most countries.
Yes. We encourage you to visit your campaign page often to frequently post updates and to make improvements so the messaging is as appealing as possible to your community of fans and supporters.
Sportfunder sends the funds raised directly into your PayPal account after your campaign ends. However, you do not have to have this set up or provide the account details before you get started.
Sportfunder has an extensive set of privacy policies to protect the integrity of your personal information.
There are no deadlines or funding minimums to satisfy in order to receive the funds. No matter how much you raise, whether you reach your funding goal or not, you will still receive all of the money donated to your campaign (less the platform and PayPal/Credit Card processing fees).
Yes. We can display contributions that have been given offline.
There are many ways, including shout outs on your social media page, recognition on your campaign page and tagging your supporters on Facebook. We recommend all three!
No, you do not need an account on Sportfunder or PayPal to contribute to an athlete. All you need is a major credit card. You can also add your picture to the list of contributors by connecting your Facebook account.
Sportfunder does not automatically issue tax receipts to contributors. It is up to the athletes using the Sportfunder platform to indicate on their campaign page whether or not non-profit status has been achieved, in which case the athlete, team or their sponsoring body is responsible for issuing tax receipts.
Yes. When making your contribution, select the Anonymous option. However, if you contribute anonymously, you will not be able to receive a reward from the campaign.
